  • Best Holiday Times: While Zanzibar is not known for traditional safaris, the best time to visit for beach vacations and cultural exploration is between June and October.

Zanzibar enjoys a tropical climate with hot and humid conditions throughout the year. The island experiences two rainy seasons, with a more pronounced wet season from March to May.

Most travelers to Zanzibar require a visa to enter Tanzania, which also covers Zanzibar as part of the country. A single-entry visa can be obtained online, or you can opt for an East Africa Tourist Visa for multiple entries to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Effective October 1, 2024, all foreign non-residents traveling to Zanzibar will be required to purchase mandatory travel insurance directly from the national insurer, Zanzibar Insurance Corporation, prior to arrival.   • Yellow Fever: Zanzibar is a yellow fever endemic zone, and proof of vaccination is required for entry.
  • Malaria: Malaria exists in Zanzibar, especially in the coastal and lowland areas. Consult your healthcare provider for preventative medication.
